Bluebird BID News

Thanks for getting Tasty with us!

The 11th Annual Tasty Colfax, hosted by the Bluebird Business Improvement District, took over the streets once again on Tuesday, July 23rd to help showcase all that Colfax Avenue has to offer. Over 500 people hit the streets between Josephine and Cook on this one-of-a-kind walking restaurant tour of this eclectic Denver neighborhood.

The weather was perfect for mingling with neighbors and new and old friends alike. Everyone ate until their bellies were full, listened to live music and saw a different kind of Colfax with the addition of the traffic calming demonstration.

The pop-up traffic calming demonstration took place at one of Colfax’s busiest and most dangerous pedestrian intersections. The demonstration was possible thanks to a grant from Vision Zero, awarded to Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods (CHUN)WalkDenver helped manage the project and assisted in the development, administration and support of the program.

Overall the demonstration was a huge success. People slowed down and our streets were safer during those three hours for those that live, work, play, commute and WALK in theBluebird District. The traffic calming pop-up closed down the median and the parking lane between Madison and Monroe, added a pretty parklet with temporary planters and seating area, a pedestrian crosswalk with crossing guards, a bike valet thanks to Wish for Wheels, tires, cones, traffic flaggers and volunteers in bright colored shirts!

Tasty Colfax would not be possible without the incredible participating businesses that open their doors: Annie’s Café, Atomic Cowboy, Bastien’s, Cerebral Brewing, Fat Sully’s, Denver Biscuit Co., Goosetown, Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli, Hooked on Colfax, Kitchen Table Café, Lula Rose General Store, Machete Tequila & Tacos, Mezcal, Middleman, Q House Denver, Saucy Bombay, Trattoria Stella’s, Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs, The Goods, To The Wind Bistro, Tommy’s Thai, Coloradical, and SIE Film Center.

Thanks to the support of the Tasty Colfax Community Sponsors: Rosen Properties, and Groundswell Cannabis Boutique by Lova. Thank you additionally to our partners on theTasty Colfax Traffic Calming Demonstration: Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods (CHUN), WalkDenver, Vision Zero and Wish for Wheels and finally to Tiger Kim’s Taekwondo Academy. More photos to come – see you next year!

Traffic Calming Pop-up Coming to Tasty Colfax

We are very excited to partner with Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods (CHUN) and Walk Denver to integrate a Vision Zero Community Program Traffic Calming Project at the Intersection of Colfax and Madison during the 11th Annual Tasty Colfax on Tuesday, July 23rd from 5:30-8:30pm..

The City and County of Denver has launched a new community program that will give teams of community members an opportunity to design a project to increase awareness of Vision Zero and promote safer streets in our neighborhood. WalkDenver is assisting in the development, administration and support of the program.

A traffic calming and potential analysis project will take place at one of the busiest and most dangerous pedestrian intersections on Colfax. This increased pedestrian traffic is due to the massive influx of businesses at Colfax and Madison, and its proximity to residents.

2018 Boo n’ Brew a Spooky Success!

The 2018 Boo and Brew on Saturday, October 27th was a huge success. Over 250 kiddos took to the streets of the Bluebird District to trick or treat in a safe, fun, family-friendly environment.

The street came alive with an incredible, eclectic collection of businesses opening their doors and their candy bowls to the costumed kiddos (and adult friends too!).

Over 30 businesses participated with everything from salons and tattoo parlors, to Tattered Cover Book Store, Twist and Shout, to many of our favorite dining establishments and watering holes, to the neighborhood anchor itself – the Bluebird Theater – there was no shortage of candy and treats for the kids that came out to celebrate the 12th annual Colfax tradition.

Live music, pumpkin decorating, a spooky dollhouse at Hooked on Colfax, a photo booth at the Bad Kitty Salon, face painting, a fun giveaway from the Denver Police Department, obstacle courses and of course SO MANY AMAZING COSTUMES rounded out the afternoon.

The fun continued into the night for adults, who took part in a Spooktacular bar/restaurant crawl. Participating businesses offered the best drink specials in town, live music, costume contests and more.

Thank you to all of the incredible businesses that participated and to everyone that made Boo and Brew a part of your weekend plans. We hope to see you next year!

A special thank you to Tiger Kim’s, Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs, Denver Police Department, Groundswell Cannabis Boutique, and AEG/Bluebird Theater for their extra support of the event!
