 |
| Q:
How long have you been operating your business? |
The
Babooshka concept was started in New York about 12 years
ago. The salon moved to Denver 7 years ago and was originally
downtown.
I moved the salon to it’s current location
in the Bluebird District 3 years ago. I’ve been a
stylist for over 20 years. Babooshka is now currently home
to 6 stylists who all share a very strong bond. |
|
 |
 |
| Q:
What motivates you to operate a small business? |
It’s
simple really: Community, culture, and hair!
|
|
 |
 |
| Q:
Why did you choose this particular location? |

It really came
down to a matter of timing, everything just came together
at the most opportune time and we decided to go for it. |
|
 |
 |
| Q:
What plans do you have for the future of your business? |
| Babooshka is
here to stay! It’s a constantly evolving concept
and as such it’s always a work in progress, and in
this location I have the ability and space to do what I
want with it. The basement has been renovated and we are
starting to rent it out to people for studio space. |
|
 |
 |
| Q:
What changes have you seen on Colfax since your business
started here? |
When Babooshka
first moved to this location most of the other storefronts
on the block were boarded up. Since then, I’ve
witnessed a huge push towards improving this district.
Atomic Cowboy, Barb’s Flower Shop, Hooked on Colfax,
Propaganda Labs, Mezcal, and Café Star have all
made their homes here in the last 3 years. The whole
neighborhood has become closer as a result of our efforts.
The timing was just right and the Bluebird District is
now an amazing community. |
|
 |
 |
| Q:
Tell us a good story about something you’ve seen
on Colfax: |
A grown
man was walking around the block wearing nothing but
a giant diaper. He came into the salon to be greeted
by total silence and jaw-dropping stares! Turns out the
tattoo parlor across the street, Peter Tat-2, had just
brought on a new apprentice and had to initiate him… and
they decided that dressing him up in a diaper and sending
him around the neighborhood would be appropriate. |
|
 |
 |
Q:
What would you like to see happen to this area
in the coming years? |
I
just wish to continue watching the community grow
and flourish. I’d like to see more local
businesses make their home here up and down the
street. |
