SUMMARY:Consider The Source w/ The Workshy at Lost Lake
DESCRIPTION:Lost Lake Presents\nConsider the Source\nThe Workshy \nFriday Apr 13\, 2018\nDoors: 8:30 PM\nShow: 9:30 PM\n16 and over\n$15 – $18 \nTickets at: http://ticketf.ly/2EbQ6bm \nNYC trio Consider the Source defy easy description. If intergalactic beings of pure energy\, after initiation into an order of whirling dervishes\, built some kind of pan-dimensional booty-shaking engine\, powered by psychedelics and abstract math\, it’d probably just sound like a CTS tribute band. Drawing from progressive rock\, fusion and jazz\, with alien sounds soaked in Indian and Middle Eastern styles\, CTS blends disparate parts into a striking\, utterly original whole. Dubbed “Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Fusion”\, the band’s music strikes a rare balance between cerebral and emotional\, intellectual and primal. A relentless touring schedule has won the band a fervent following from California to Israel\, with fans ranging from jam-band hippies and jazz cats to corpse-painted headbangers and prog geeks. \nFormed in 2004\, Consider the Source features Gabriel Marin on fretless double-neck guitar\, bassist John Ferrara\, and drummer/percussionist Jeff Mann. Called “the guiding light for his generation of six-stringers”\, Marin channels the mystical fury of McLaughlin and Coltrane into wailing melodies\, kaleidoscopic soundscapes and boneshaking riffs. With a background in classical musics both Eurpoean and Indian\, and an instinct for avant-jazz and destructive metal\, Marin’s hypnotic fusion of styles is ever unpredictable. Ferrara’s propulsive\, percussive attack\, equally suited to simple grooves and impossible chords\, can ground the music or launch it into space. His madcap gumbo of slap bass\, Indian rhythms\, earthy minimalism and complex tapping constantly pushes into strange new worlds\, whilst still dropping thick booty-clap beats. Underneath them lies Mann’s rolling thunder; dense rhythmic architecture built from pure swagger and bounce. Half double-bass prog-metal\, half crackle-pop Buddy Rich swing\, with African and Balkan swirls\, Mann’s muscular\, freewheeling polyrhythms are the engine fuel for Consider’s multiversal mischief. Even when not improvising\, Consider’s music is always a conversation\, a roiling stew of dynamic interplay. Each member of Consider the Source alternately leads and follows\, spars and assists; in any single song\, alliances are made and broken\, bargains struck and divorces finalized. \nTouring from coast to coast\, as well as Europe and the Middle East\, has not only earned the band thousands of fans\, but has allowed them to perform with a wide variety of well-known artists\, including Victor Wooten\, Wayne Krantz\, King Crimson Projekt\, Kris Myers (Umphrey’s McGee)\, Wyclef Jean\, Andy Statman\, Matt Darriau (Paradox Trio)\, Oteil Burbridge\, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey\, Dumpstaphunk\, Keller Williams\, George Porter\, Jr.\, Jeff Sipe\, Panzerballet (Germany)\, Eatliz (Israel)\, Freak Kitchen (Sweden)\, Morglbl (France)\, and many others. They have performed at numerous festivals and events\, including Burning Man\, Gathering of the Vibes\, the NYC Fretless Guitar Festival\, Catskill Chill\, Sun Seekers Ball (Canada)\, Aura Music & Arts Festival (Florida)\, Jazz Fest (New Orleans)\, Head For The Hills Festival & SXSW (Texas)\, Rootwire (Ohio)\, and the NYC Gypsy Festival. The band’s latest release\, “World War Trio (Part 1)” (2014) is available at considerthesourcemusic.bandcamp.com.

SUMMARY:AMZY
DESCRIPTION:AMZY\nwith Kayla Hruby\, HoldFast \nFRI\, 13 APR 2018 at 08:00PM MDT\nAges: 16 & Over\nDoors Open: 07:00PM \nOnSale: Fri\, 2 Feb 2018 at 10:00AM MST\nAnnouncement: Mon\, 29 Jan 2018 at 10:00AM MST \n“Music is our break from life’s complications.”\nAMZY blends rock and modern textures to create a genre all their own. In their music\, empathy comes first. Each member’s inner conflicts — from struggles with identity\, societal pressures\, depression and simply being human — are interlaced between each track. AMZY carved out their place in Denver with detailed live performances that blend passion\, humor and heart.\n“We put on suits because they make us feel like we’re going to do something great. We put on good live shows because that’s what we think we’d want to see. We’re awkward at times\, and goofy often\, but we know where we are.”\nThe on-stage journey of self discovery and finding happiness helps build bridges between genres\, sounds and each other.\nIn 2015\, AMZY released their debut EP We Don’t Walk\, We Dance with singles “Five to Midnight.” In 2016\, the band released single “Words\,” followed by “Sorry (Not Sorry)” in early 2017. A follow-up EP is anticipated later in 2018.

SUMMARY:Coast Modern
DESCRIPTION:COAST MODERN\nwith The Palms\, DeCollage \nTHU\, 12 APR 2018 at 08:00PM MDT\nAges: 16 & Over\nDoors Open: 07:00PM \nOnSale: Fri\, 17 Nov 2017 at 10:00AM MST\nAnnouncement: Mon\, 13 Nov 2017 at 10:00AM MST \nSometimes the only way to get ahead is to stop following the leader\, and start running your own race. Coast Modern flies out of the pack with a refreshingly uninhibited sound for disenchanted dreamers everywhere. Building on an admiration for the spirit of misfit alternative bands and the fearless ethos of modern hip hop\, the duo creates alternative pop with a wink that aims to push the genre into the future.\nSeattle-native Luke Atlas and LA-local Coleman Trapp met while working as Los Angeles-based songwriters\, fellow rats in the race to land songs with mainstream pop artists. After more than two years of peddling some great\, some terrible\, and some very weird creations at the gates of the mainstream\, they received little more than fleeting glances. Watching so many of their creations die on the operating table left the two burnt out and questioning their path.\nWith just a backpack and a tape recorder\, Coleman escaped his over-saturated hometown for the mountainous serenity of Denver\, CO. What was meant to be a quick\, head-clearing vacation soon turned into months as Coleman blended into the community\, taking a job at a family restaurant\, and enjoying the simple pleasures of a “normal” life.\n“I realized I didn’t desire the trappings of music industry success that drove me for years\,” recalls Coleman. “I actually started thinking I might never go back.” Without the pressure of writing-on-demand\, he began messing around on a borrowed acoustic guitar and recording tossed-off ditties on an old cassette recorder. The pure\, child-like enjoyment of writing only for himself led Coleman to a realization: maybe he’d overlooked a path that was right in front of him the whole time.\nSoon\, warbly tape recordings began appearing in Luke’s inbox. “At first I didn’t think much of them because they were so different\, but they kept randomly getting stuck in my head” says Luke\, who further encouraged Coleman’s experiments. On a whim\, Luke created a production around one of the acoustic demos and sent it back. Coleman was thrilled. “It felt like this could be something\,” says Luke. “I told him to get his ass back to LA.”\nReturning with renewed vigor and a rusted-out car hood after a Mile-High winter\, Coleman quickly called a meeting with Luke. With their new musical experiments buzzing in their heads\, the pair discussed creating a personal project based purely on the whims of their creative spark\, wherever that led them. “After we stopped shooting at an invisible moving target and had no agenda\, that’s when the sound came\,” explains Luke. And Coleman\, who had not so much as even sung “Happy Birthday” until a few years prior\, began finding the confidence to take frontman status\, lending his vocals to the tracks that began to take form through a playful\, stream-of-consciousness process.\nOne of the first songs they plucked from the ether together was “Hollow Life.” An anthem for restless souls everywhere\, the lyrics drip with the same frustration the duo once felt for their city\, while Coleman yearns for a simpler life away from it all. “Racing towards a dream on the horizon / Gimme something better than this Hollow Life\,” he sings over plinking marimba mashed up with angular fuzzy bass and booming 808 kick drums.\n“The song is about finding distance from what is hindering you\, whether it be physical or mental distance\,” explains Coleman. “But we’re no gurus. We’re just trying to let people know that we’re here figuring this shit out too.”\nOn the other end of the duo’s musical spectrum is the bouncy tribute to nascent romance\, “Dive” and the psychedelic\, “Comb My Hair.” Digging deeper\, there is the group’s wistful meditation on the passage of time\, “Wild Things\,” and\, “Frost\,” crackling with imperfection from Coleman’s original Denver basement tapes. Clearly Coast Modern are capable of covering a large swath of musical territory\, yet a strong\, self-aware voice and a sense of groove tie them all together.\nWith their destiny now grasped firmly in their own hands\, the duo are reveling in the freedom of their newfound artist status. At the will of their muses instead of the tidal flow of the pop world\, the group can create the genuine\, self-assured music that had been locked inside. Coast Modern is what happens when you let go of what you always thought you wanted and embrace the unexpected; when you stop chasing and start taking the lead.

SUMMARY:Billie Eilish **SOLD OUT**
DESCRIPTION:Where’s My Mind Tour \nBILLIE EILISH **SOLD OUT**\nwith Reo Cragun \nFRI\, 6 APR 2018 at 08:00PM MDT\nAges: All Ages\nDoors Open: 07:00PM \nOnSale: Fri\, 1 Dec 2017 at 10:00AM MST\nAnnouncement: Mon\, 27 Nov 2017 at 11:00AM MST \nBillie Eilish might just make you believe in magic…\nIt’s the best explanation for this silver-haired 15-year-old siren whose breathy\, soulful\, and spirited croon immediately casts an unbreakable spell. The Los Angeles songstress resembles something of a fairy tale heroine—albeit one with a Tyler\, the Creator obsession\, Aurora inspiration\, wicked sense of humor\, and inimitable fashion sense filtered through a kaleidoscope of hip-hop\, grunge\, and glam tendencies ready to practically levitate above any runway. It’s this kind of je nais sais quoi that fueled the meteoric rise of her debut single “Ocean Eyes.” Produced by big brother Finneas O’Connell\, a whopping four-and-a-half years older than she is\, the siblings uploaded the track to Soundcloud in 2015\, and it became a veritable phenomenon\, generating 40 million cumulative Spotify streams and 5 million YouTube/VEVO views. In between signing to Darkroom/Interscope during 2016\, Vogue decried her\, “Pop’s Next It Girl\,” and she received love from i-D Magazine\, V Magazine\, and Beats 1 tastemaker Zane Lowe. This fervor stems from a combination of the whimsy Billie creates by being herself and an impressive “I-don’t-give-an-eff” imperviousness.\n“I want to say things that people think but nobody says\,” she explains. “I like to make myself uncomfortable and spend my day out of my comfort zone musically and in terms of how I look. I really like being judged. I don’t care if it’s a good or bad judgment\, I’m in your head now\, and you’re thinking about me.”\nIn many ways\, Billie has been working towards this in earnest since birth. Her wise and warm actor/teacher/artist parents fondly recall\, “She couldn’t go without singing for even a moment.” By eight-years-old\, she joined the renowned Los Angeles Children’s Chorus and would go on to perform everywhere from Japan to the Hollywood Bowl with John Williams and Walt Disney Concert Hall. A lifelong dancer\, she also became a part of a dance company at Revolution Dance Center. Within the family’s East Los Angeles quaint creative oasis complete with a handmade treehouse and trapeze equipment\, her parents homeschooled Billie. Her youth would be augmented and enhanced by a much larger community of friends often devoting Fridays to group art projects and all kinds of adventures.\n“Since I wasn’t forced to do anything\, it made me want to learn and do certain things\,” she says.\nThe artist developed a keen appetite for music discovery\, constantly combing Soundcloud and the internet at large for underground rap and chill artists. Simultaneously\, she and Finneas quietly wrote and recorded a host of music\, culminating with the breakthrough of “Ocean Eyes.”\n“I was going through something with this boy who had deep blue ocean eyes\,” she sighs. “I was really in love with him\, at least I thought I was. He wasn’t interested though. Finneas brought me the song\, and it meant so much to me—it still does.”\nAfter further success with “Six Feet Under\,” her 2017 follow-up single “Bellyache” trots along on bright acoustic guitars before spinning out into a bass boom and unexpected\, cinematic lyrics like\, “Sitting all alone\, mouthful of gum in the driveway\, my friends aren’t far\, in the back of my car\, lay their bodies” and “My V is for Vendetta. I thought that I’d feel better. Now I got a bellyache.”\n“When I write\, I try to become different characters\,” exclaims Billie. “You can write a song about being in love with someone\, but you don’t have to be in love with anyone. You can write a song about killing someone\, but you don’t have to have killed people. ‘Bellyache’ is one of those characters.”\nBillie’s “gloom pop\,” as she appropriately dubs it\, is nothing short of magic as it continually surprises.\n“I don’t want to ever write or sing the same way everyone else does\,” she leaves off. “It’s just me\, and I’m always going to be myself.”

SUMMARY:Baths
DESCRIPTION:BATHS\nwith No Joy\, Sasami Ashworth \nTHU\, 5 APR 2018 at 08:00PM MDT\nAges: 16 & Over\nDoors Open: 07:00PM \nOnSale: Fri\, 17 Nov 2017 at 10:00AM MST\nAnnouncement: Mon\, 13 Nov 2017 at 11:00AM MST \nFor mercurial L.A. music-maker Will Wiesenfeld\, Baths has been a long time coming. The 21-year-old has spent the better part of his days living amidst “pleasant” and “unremarkable” in the suburbs of the San Fernando Valley\, so perhaps it’s due to a general lack of local inspiration that Wiesenfeld’s own work has never fit into a prefab box of its own. Over the last six years\, under the handle of [Post-Foetus]\, Wiesenfeld has gainfully explored the intersections and outer reaches of both electronic and acoustic music. With Baths\, his eclecticism finds its greatest focus yet\, in a hail of lush melodies\, ghostly choirs\, playful instrumentation and stuttering beats.\nWiesenfeld’s trip began at age 4\, when he willed his parents into enrolling him in piano lessons. (The family upright\, purchased that same year\, sits in his bedroom today.) By 13\, he’d begun artisting his own music using Digital Performer and a MIDI keyboard — a brief\, ill-advised foray into Eurobeat that was set right when Wiesenfeld heard Bjork for the first time. Mind blown\, he quickly boned up on viola\, contrabass\, and guitar and took the name [Post-Foetus]\, stringing together countless live configurations to execute his increasingly inimitable compositions. [Post-Foetus]’ fourth album — a Dntel-ish\, song-based melange dubbed The Fabric — was released on Mu-Nest in January.\nThough Baths represents the next evolution in Wiesenfeld’s oeuvre — which also includes the excellent ambient project Geotic — it came together under nigh-opposite circumstances. Last September\, [Post-Foetus] was invited by L.A. electronicist Daedelus to share a bill with a handful of local Beat Music luminaries. Witnessing a burgeoning movement firsthand sparked something in Wiesenfeld that the ‘burbs never could. In a fit of inspiration\, Baths was born\, though not into a preexisting scene. As is to be expected\, this music goes its own way: fueled by spontaneity\, tempered by Wiesenfeld’s background in classic songwriting. Those two influences collide in glorious ways on Cerulean\, Baths’ stunning debut.

SUMMARY:Jake Bugg
DESCRIPTION:97.3 KBCO Presents \nJAKE BUGG\nwith Nina Nesbitt \nWED\, 4 APR 2018 at 08:00PM MDT\nAges: 16 & Over\nDoors Open: 07:00PM \nOnSale: Fri\, 8 Dec 2017 at 10:00AM MST\nAnnouncement: Mon\, 4 Dec 2017 at 08:00AM MST \nShuffling\, playlisting and cherry-picking your favourite songs is all well andgood\, but sometimes you can’t beat sitting down with an album and playingit from start to finish. An album that sounds like it was recorded in one room\,with the same group of people and that perfectly captures a specificmoment in time.\nJake Bugg’s last album\, 2016’s On My One\, was a dizzyingly eclecticcollection of styles and sounds\, but for the follow up\, the 23-year–old wantedsomething that felt like the LPs that took pride of place in his own recordcollection. Albums take you into their own\, sealed world. “On the last albumit was fun to experiment with different instruments and writing styles\,” reflectsBugg. “But this time around I just wanted to make a complete record asopposed to a collection of songs. Just write the tunes and record them withgreat musicians.”\nHe’s certainly got his wish for Hearts That Strain. Starting in January this year\,Bugg would write songs at home then fly out to Nashville to record them withsome of the best players in the history of popular music. As part of AmericanSound Studio’s legendary house band The Memphis Boys\, Gene Chrismanand Bobby Woods provided the chops on such pivotal records as Dusty InMemphis\, In The Ghetto\, Suspicious Minds and Dark End Of The Street\, cuttingtheir teeth in sessions with Wilson Pickett\, Aretha Franklin and DionneWarwick.\n“They’re old guys but they’re amazing\,” Bugg recalls with disbelief. “It was tento five and then that’s it. They’d pack up and we’d done two or three tunes. It was a mad vibe being from England and meeting these absolute legendsand then cutting some tracks with them.”\nWorking with producers David Ferguson and Matt Sweeney\, Bugg’s time inNashville proved to be incredibly productive. In just three week-long tripsthey’d finished the album. “Nashville is mad. Everybody plays out there. Yougo around somebody’s house for a few beers and just jam with them.”One of the people he ended up just jamming with was The Black Keys’ DanAuerbach\, who collaborated with Bugg on breezy opener How Soon TheDawn\, the shuffling rockabilly get-down I Can Burn Alone and In The Event OfMy Demise\, a tune that sounds like a generations old folk song the pair havefreshly dug up out of the Mississippi mud. “Dan’s wicked\,” smiles Bugg. “He’sgot this amazing work ethic\, he just knuckles down and gets on with it.”\nAnother chance encounter provided a surprise collaboration. When Buggwas back in the UK writing\, mulleted country rock superstar Billy RayCyrus stopped by the studio and was so taken with the rough version ofWaiting he heard being played off the desk that he suggested his daughter -younger sister of Miley and rising star in her own right – Noah Cyrus should singon it. The result is one of Hearts That Strain’s finest moments – a Southern Soulwaltz of a ballad to which a swooning Cyrus vocal brings the directemotional wallop of the best country music. “I’d never really collaboratedwith many singers so I was a bit unsure\,” recalls Bugg\, “but when they sent itback it was amazing. It was a nice surprise. When I come back in it soundsterrible\, but when she’s singing it sounds alright!”\nNashville\, Billy Ray Cyrus\, seasoned session pros… anyone for whom the ideaof Jake Bugg in a Stetson and bootlace tie might cause unease can resteasy. Hearts That Strain is still very much the same voice and remarkablyassured songwriter of Lightning Bolt and Slumville Sunrise\, it’s more that hissurroundings and the players around him have bled into the record’s moodand warm\, glowing production. It’s there in the gently strummed mandolinthat floats in on Southern Rain\, the deft finger picking on the title track\, thesighing pedal steel that glides through This Time and the slapback echo andcrackling guitar lines that make I Can Burn Alone sound like it could havebeen cut at Sun Studios. More importantly\, it provides the threads that runthrough Hearts That Strain that make it feel like more than the sum of its parts.Rather than be an album to dip in and out of\, it’s an organic whole that fromthe moment you press play you have to see it out to the final note.\n“I just like putting out records\,” reflect Bugg with characteristicunderstatement. “I like making albums\, I like listening to albums. If you listen toa lot of those classic records throughout each track you can tell that it’srecorded in the same place. It’s nice to have that consistency.” It seemsreports of the album’s death have been greatly exaggerated.

SUMMARY:Jeff Crosby and the Refugees
DESCRIPTION:free show! come check out incredible singer songwriter Jeff Crosby. Born and raised in Idaho\, Jeff Crosby has been sharing his unique perspective of Americana throughout the US and beyond for the past decade. His songs are a collection from growing up in a small town in Idaho with all of the hardships and\nbeauty of living in small town America\, to five years living in a shoebox apartment off Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles CA\, then to traveling and living on the road playing 250 shows a year. Though recently making the move to Nashville TN\, Jeff continues to spend majority of his time touring the country. \nAfter spending the last two years splitting his time between playing guitar for Widespread Panic song-writer Jerry Joseph and performing with his own band\, Jeff hit the studio to produce his fourth full length album\, Postcards from Magdalena. \nThe collection of songs was inspired by the places and cultures Crosby experienced while traveling across the U.S.\, Iceland\, the UK.\, Colombia\, Nicaragua\, and Alaska.
