Meet the BBID Board of Directors

The Bluebird District Board members are volunteers who donate their time and effort to craft the future of the district. They participate in monthly meetings, support district events and businesses, and guide investments in the area.

Board Meetings

Typically, the Bluebird District Board of Directors meets on the third Wednesday of each month, 10:30 a.m. These meetings are open to the public. Learn more about the board here.

Sean Mandel, President

Sean’s family business, Rosen Properties, is a property management firm that owns around 100 residential and commercial units on or around East Colfax. He has brought a highly successful grocery store to the area and transformed the former Galaxie Auto Body Shop into popular community serving neighborhood amenity with Cerebral Brewing and Machete. Sean has served on the BBID board for 7 years.

Term:  Appointed June 2013; re-appointed 2016/2020 – term expires June 2024

Jareb Parker, Vice President

Jareb moved to the Bluebird District in 2017. Through a background in architecture, fabrication, and bartending he designed, built, and is currently the operating owner at Middleman. He is a wood and metal worker with competence in a variety of design software, tools, and media. Other skills include business planning and management, graphic design, and passing ability with the ukulele.

Term: Appointed July 2019; expires July 2023

Tom Secrist, Treasurer 

Tom is an independent real estate professional and owner of Secrist Properties. He renovated and continues to own the buildings where the Atomic Cowboy, Middleman and Q House are located. Tom has served on the BBID board for 7 years.

Term:  Appointed June 2013; re-appointed 2014; re-appointed July 2018; expires May 2022

Don Novak

The Novak family has a long standing history on East Colfax. Don is the creative force behind Tasty Colfax and Boo and Brew events, and founded the Bluebird BID. Born and raised near Colfax, Don has committed his time and energy to East Colfax and has contributed to many community events and organizations over the years. Don has served on the BBID board for 7 years.

Term: Appointed June 2013; re-appointed 2016/2020 – term expires June 2024

Richard “Buzz” Geller

Buzz, managing partner at Paradise Land Company, has a long standing history on East Colfax, as operator of Paradise Cleaners since 1973.  He was born in a house immediately next to the district and a long standing and active commitment to business viability and vibrancy on Colfax. Buzz has served on the BBID board for 7 years.

Term: Appointed June 2013; re-appointed June 2014; re-appointed July 2018; expires May 2022

Chris Swank

In the early 90’s Chris helped launch Denver’s music scene into something big. Within the district, he is the owner and operator of Mezcal and Goosetown, an entertainment venue, and owns the Bluebird Theatre. Outside the district he also owns La Rumba and the Stampede. Chris has served on the BBID board for 4 years.

Term: Appointed May 2016; re-appointed August 2020; expires June 2024

Alison Laevey

Alison is a 25-year resident of the neighborhood, having raised a family including two kids who attended local schools. She owns two Bishops Cuts/Colors, one in the District and another in the Lowry Town Center. Before becoming a business owner Alison spent a career in healthcare in strategy and marketing. As an active member of the community she has served on several task forces and volunteered at schools and other organizations.
